London-based Rila Institute of Health Sciences has announced the launch of its Certification in The Altered Airways course for health professionals in the United Arab Emirates, beginning with a series of workshops that were held in Dubai from February 21-22.
The course – Certification in the Management of the Altered Airway (Tracheostomy & Laryngectomy) – was compiled in conjunction with a range of healthcare experts and is suitable for intensivists (ICU) surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists who are working with patients who have had a tracheostomy or laryngectomy.
Delivering the course is a team of experts including surgeons, therapists, nurses, anaesthetists and others, and the certificate itself is accredited by the British ENT surgeons’ group ENT UK and approved by The British Laryngological Association, and is fully recognised by healthcare employers. The duration of the course is ~ 12 weeks.
The UAE programmes begins with two days of workshops featuring lectures and practical skills training. Around a dozen reading topics are supplied online, along with assessments to be completed. There are also a series of Interactive webinars that the participant can access from their home base. Students have hands-on experience with a mentor or supervisor who will oversee their clinical work.
Admission to this course is open to those who are currently in a clinical practice and actively involved in altered airway management and care. In addition, students must hold a relevant professional qualification in their area of expertise and must have access to a computer and internet to complete the online aspects of the course.
Students will finish the first UAE course after the final summative examination to be held on 29th may 2016.
